Biographical Note
Ernest Leroy Shaw was born in 1872 in Hartford, Michigan. In 1904 he married Mary Ella McKean in Wahpeton, North Dakota. She was a school teacher and was born in 1871 in Chester, Minnesota. They moved to Caldwell, Idaho, in 1910 where Ernest worked as an abstractor of titles. They had five children, among them Dr. Manley B. Shaw, an orthopedic surgeon, and Dr. Mary Shaw Shorb, a research chemist instrumental in the 1948 discovery of Vitamin B-12.
