Historical Note
The Americanization School in Boise, Idaho taught immigrant adults to speak, read and write the English language as the first step toward becoming citizens of the United States through naturalization. The immigrant adult education program was administered by the State of Idaho Department of Education, Civilian Conservation Corps, and Works Progress Administration. The school was founded in 1914 when the construction of Arrowrock Dam brought immigrants into the area. Eva Hunt Dockery was one of the founders. Mrs. Minnie Wells became an instructor in 1939.
