Scope of Contents
The certificates range in date from 1862 to 1958. Some of the most interesting and elaborate are those issued by various expositions, such as the Lewis and Clark Centennial, held in 1905. Also of note: many of the certificates in the Federal Appointments category are signed by United States presidents.
A few of the certificates, mostly diplomas and some fraternal organizations' certificates, are written in Latin. In these instances, an attempt was made to translate the material for the inventory.
The inventory consists of information taken from each certificate. The information is divided into five fields: folder number, date certificate was signed, individual or entity to whom the certificate is issued, reason for the certificate, and notes.
