Summary
The collection consists of newspapers, correspondence, legal documents, photographs, negatives, newsclippings, and other material collected by Mr. Pettite over a 40 year period concerning the history of the Clark and Jefferson County areas of of Idaho.

The collection is particularly strong in documentation about the pioneer families in the area and about commerce, trade, and religious and educational institutions in the Roberts, Market Lake, Camas, Medicine Lodge, and Dubois locations. Mr. Pettite used this collection to write his four-volume "Memories of Market Lake" (1965-1990) and for use in his many newspaper columns in eastern Idaho newspapers. The collection also includes his research notes and correspondence to him from his many research contacts. The collection includes over 3,000 photographs and over 2,000 copy negatives. Primary source materials date from 1868 to 1990. The bulk of the collection appears to concern the 1880-1930 period.
