Biographical Note

John M. Haines was born in Iowa on January 1, 1863. He came to Boise in 1890 where he formed a real estate company with W. E. Pierce and L. H. Cox. A Republican, Haines served as Boise's mayor in 1907 and 1908. He was elected governor in 1912, but was defeated by Democrat Moses Alexander when he ran for re-election in 1914. Haines died June 4, 1917.
