Historical Note
The National Organization for Women was created on June 30, 1966 by 28 women attending the Third Naitonal Conference of Commissions on the Status of Women. Women across the country organized and created local NOW chapters. Following the recision of Idaho's Equal Rights Amendment, the Boise chapter of NOW was chartered in April 1977, and in 1981 it was renamed Treasure Valley NOW to recongize the geographical area from which it drew its members. NOW members inform the area about women and minority issues and provide political support to change discriminatory and unequal laws and situations.
