General Note
The Women's Challenge cycling race began in 1984 under the original sponsorship of Ore-Ida Foods, headquartered in Boise, Idaho. During its two decade history, the race became one of the most prestigious women's cycling events in the world. It was later sponsored by HP paper and Powerbar after Ore-Ida ended its sponsorship. The event ended after it lost sponsorship in 2003. The event was run almost entirely by volunteers.
