Historical Note

The Idaho National Laboratory (INL), initially named the National Reactor Testing Station, opened near Idaho Falls in 1949. Since its opening, the INL has completed many scientific and nuclear experiements.

Susan Stacy, a Boise historian collected the various news items and agency publications in this collection while researching her book "Proving the Principle: A History of the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory 1949-1999". This book was written to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the laboratory, and won the Distinguished Science Communicator Award from the Idaho Academy of Science.
