General Note
John Sanborn was born on September 28, 1885 in Chenoa, Illinois. He graduated from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio in 1908. He earned a law degree and a Master's Degree in Political Science, both awarded in 1912 from Columbia University. He died on May 16, 1968. Sanborn married Jessie McNabb of Illinois in 1912. She also graduated from Oberlin in 1908. In 1913 they started farming in Hagerman, Idaho.
Sanborn served five sessions in the Idaho House of Representatives (1921-1930), and he served in the Idaho Senate from 1939 to 1942. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives and served two terms, 1946 to 1950. He later ran, unsuccessfully, for United States Senator and Idaho Lieutenant Governor and Idaho Governor. Sanborn was a conservative Republican who was active in agricultural issues as well as reclamation and "sound money."
