Background
Dr. Ellis Kackley came to Soda Springs in 1898 three days out of medical school at the University of Tennessee. People seeking his expertise came from all over the United States. His patients kept the hotels in Soda Springs filled. Except for service in WWI, he practiced in Soda Springs until his death in 1943. Dr. Ellis Kackley was instrumental in the construction of the Caribou County Hospital with a $30,000 bind and his $3,000 dollar donation, Caribou County’s 30 bed hospital opened its doors on December 1, 1925. Dr. Ellis Kackley and his son, Evan Kackley, donated much of the medical equipment. The hospital served Caribou County until 1969 when the new Caribou Memorial Hospital opened. This is collection of his families papers and achievements.
