Biographical / Historical
Velma Leona Childs was born March 14, 1909, to Charles and Anna (Olson) in Nebraska, and grew up on farms in Nebraska, North Dakota, and Idaho. She attended elementary school in Twin Falls County, Idaho, and graduated from Buhl High School in 1928. In high school she played basketball with the Idaho State Champions and participated in a national tournament in Wichita, Kansas, in 1927. She worked as a telephone operator in Buhl when she married John Beecher (J.B.) Giezentanner in 1930.
