History
Teton County, located in eastern Idaho along the Wyoming border, was established in 1915 from the northern portion of Fremont County. The county seat is Driggs, situated in the Teton Valley beneath the western slopes of the Teton Range. Historically, the area developed through agriculture, ranching, and timber, with settlement expanding in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as irrigation projects supported farming communities. The county’s location near Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Hole, Wyoming, fostered a strong connection to tourism, outdoor recreation, and seasonal travel. As visitation increased throughout the twentieth century, tourism became an important influence on the county’s economy and identity, complementing its long-standing agricultural and administrative roles.
