History
The Idaho Board of Registration for Professional Geologists was established in 1971 by the Idaho Legislature under Title 54, Chapter 28 of the Idaho Code. The Board was created to regulate the public practice of geology, ensuring that professional geologists in Idaho meet established educational and ethical standards.
From its creation through 2020, the Board operated under the Idaho Bureau of Occupational Licenses (IBOL). In 2020, administrative oversight was transferred to the newly created Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL), which consolidated numerous professional licensing boards under one division within the Department of Self-Governing Agencies.
