Biographical Note

Victor L. Scovel was born 4 January 1924 on a farm outside of Castleford, Idaho, near Twin Falls. After attending schools in Gooding and Pocatello, Scovel enlisted in 1942 into the Army Air Corps to be trained as a pilot. The war was spent in assignments throughout the United States and East Asia. After his discharge from active service in 1946, Scovel returned to Idaho to finish his education. In 1948 he graduated with a B.A. in Economics from Idaho State University in Pocatello and in 1953 he received an M.A. in Economics from the University of Utah. During this time he met Laura Clark, and they were married 26 December 1953. After different jobs throughout the United States, Scovel migrated too the Los Angeles area to secure a job with the Southern California Edison Company.
