Postcards

Postcards mementos from the donor's grandfather's grocery store in Harrison, Idaho. His name was Benjamin Sylvester Lafferty and he came to the panhandle area around 1880. He was an Irish immigrant and his wife Wilhelmina Scheweekman was a German immigrant. They raised 7 children, one of whom was Albert Lafferty who had the tugboats on Coeur d'Alene until his death about 1957. Postcards are of Rathdrum, Harrison, and Idaho Falls, Idaho.

14 postcards of various Boise scenes, including construction of a dam, camping, and Saint Luke's Children Hospital. All are unidentified. Also includes 80 negatives of Canada scenes including Hudson's Bay Company, railroads, and Treaty Day. All are unidentified.

Approximately 100 postcards dated 1907-1956, primarily of Idaho and Northwest scenes; newspaper clipping for Mr. and Mrs. Joe Thompson's golden anniversary; photocopy of Idaho Statesman obituary for M.O. Cowling; photocopy of M.O. and Cloah Sebastian Cowling portraits.

Collection consists of post card showing Idaho scenes: Snake River and Shoshone Falls, also shows a misidentified Gardiner River Hot Springs as being in Idaho. Postcards were published by Ward brothers.

Collection includes postcards of various Mt. Home and Boise scenes, ca. 1910; photographs of Rocky Bar area, 1959; Stock certificates of Idaho National bank of Boise, Idaho, 1907; Lucky Strike Mining Co., 1913 ; Owyhee River Copper Co., 1938. All of which had been in donors family for several years.

Negatives taken for the purpose of producing photographic postcards of Idaho views. Photographs were taken between 1945 and 1960 by photographers like J. Boyd Ellis of the Ellis Post Card Co., Perkins, Collins and Christian. Images span from Lewiston Hill, Thousand Springs, Nampa, Pierce, Orofino and various dams throughout Idaho.

Postcards of Weiser pioneer, Russell Newman and Ike Kiser of Weiser. The collection also includes a photographic print of the Oregon Trail memorial bridge in Boise from 1931 and a mounted reproduction drawing from W.H. Jackson of Old Fort Hall.
